Digging Through the Debris: The Human Story Behind Nepal's Rasuwa Flood.

Numbers have a way of flattening disaster into something almost abstract. A death toll that has now surpassed a thousand people, a missing count that has hovered near four thousand, an estimated twenty million cubic meters of water and sediment unleashed in a single morning: these figures convey scale, but they do not convey what it actually meant to be standing in Timure or Syabrubesi on August 26, 2026, when the Bhote Koshi River, fed by a collapsed glacial dam somewhere upstream in Tibet, arrived without warning and rearranged an entire valley. Behind every statistic in this disaster is a family waiting by a phone that no longer has a signal, a hydropower worker sealed inside a flooded tunnel, or a soldier from the Nepali Army spending a tenth consecutive day digging through mud in search of someone who may or may not still be alive. Steps on How to Fuliza: A Quick Guide to Accessing M-Pesa Overdraft.

  1. Make Sure You Have an M-Pesa Account: First, make sure you're registered with M-Pesa. You can visit a Safaricom agent to sign up if you're not already a user.
  2. Activate Fuliza on Your M-Pesa:
  • Dial *234# on your phone.
  • Select the Fuliza M-Pesa option from the menu.
  • Follow the prompts to agree to the terms and activate the service.
  • You will receive a message confirming that Fuliza is activated and stating your overdraft limit.
  1. Check Your M-Pesa Balance: Before making a transaction, it's always helpful to know your balance. Fuliza will only come into play when you don’t have enough money in your M-Pesa wallet to complete a transaction.
  2. Start a Transaction:
  • When you're ready to send money, pay a bill, or buy something using M-Pesa, initiate the transaction as usual.
  • If your balance is insufficient, M-Pesa will notify you. It will provide an option to "Fuliza" to complete the transaction using the overdraft.
  1. Confirm the Use of Fuliza: You will receive a message. It will ask if you’d like to use Fuliza to complete the transaction. Confirm this, and the transaction will be processed using the Fuliza amount.
  2. Repay the Fuliza Overdraft: Once you've used Fuliza, Safaricom will automatically deduct the borrowed amount from your next M-Pesa deposit. Make sure to top up your account as soon as possible to clear the debt.
  3. Monitor Your Fuliza Limit: Keep track of how much you've borrowed and repaid. You can dial *234# at any time to check your current Fuliza limit and balance.

By following these steps, you can access Fuliza easily and manage your overdraft efficiently.
